When in doubt...check the Nintendo

Caleb's daycare called this week to tell me he had a fever and I went to pick him up. I stayed home with him the next day and we went to see our family doctor. He told us that Caleb has a double ear infection, he was surprised Caleb had a smile on his face. I guess he must have a high tolerance for pain, much unlike his mother...
I have been checking his temperatures frequently with a new thermometer, and then all of a sudden I could not find the thermometer. I looked everywhere and Caleb couldn't find it either. Then last night he appeared with it. I asked him where he found it and he ran to the old nintendo machine and opened the flap. Surprise, Surprise, I should've looked there first. Several months ago we were missing a dvd and he hid it in there with goldfish snacks. It is one of his favorite hiding spots. So when in doubt, check the nintendo...

Has It Really Been That Long?

This weekend Caleb and I traveled to Layton, UT to meet four of my old roommates at Olive Garden for lunch. It has been seven years since we all lived together. They were my first set of roomates, and we had a blast together! We all kind of ended up in a regional area and we were able to get together. It was fun to hear what has been happening in all of their lives for the last few years. Such fun to spend time with them again.
Then Caleb and I went to Aunt Marla's house to say hello. We talked her into going to Neilsen's Custard with us to get yummy icecream!
And then the coughing started... poor little Caleb has caught a bug. We spent all day Sunday keeping warm, refilling the juice cup, and taking naps. I stayed home with him today too, we are both feeling feverish and sluggish. Hopefully we will get better soon. Neal is ill too, but we did not contribute to his sickness. He spent Sunday in the hospital with saline drips attached to him. He has a virus, but seems to be doing much better. Guess it is just that time of year...

10 Days and Counting...

So one of my goals for the new year was to become a healthier person. Long story short... a year and a few months ago I was at my ideal weight, then I had a few health problems, my grandma passed away, my brother went to Iraq, Neal was looking for a job, and I had a rather stressful life. My doctor adjusted a few of my medications and wham-o! I gained 40 pounds. Truly devastating to me because it took me so long to be at my ideal weight. So once again I am back in the diet/exercise roller coaster. I know it is possible to do and my size 5 dress is calling in my closet.
I started my new fitness plan 10 days ago. My brother was going to be my drill seargeant, but after him calling me fatty one too many times, I let him resign from his job! He was helpful though, and I intend to stick to it. My ultimate goal is to be back where I was so that I can have another baby (no mom and dad- this is not an announcement!) I truly want a little girl to dress up, and this is one step in my plan to get there.
So my plan is this... I came across a website that calculates your fitness and nutrition (www.sparkpeople.com) and it is totally free. Then it litters my inbox once a day with tips and recipes and encourages me to keep going. I am doing a combination of South Beach/ Weight Watchers/ Lo Cal/ Mucho Grande Exercise/ Jillian Michaels/ yucko I hate this diet! Thus far I am doing well. I will keep you posted...

Makes Me Laugh

My silly child makes me laugh. Yesterday we were playing Wii fit and he wanted to play. I let him try the soccer ball goalie game. You have to hit all the balls with your head. Each time the ball came flinging at him he would say, "OUCH!" It didn't work to explain to him that the balls weren't actually hitting him. LOL!
Today when we came home I attempted to shovel the snow tundra that has built up in my driveway. Caleb wanted to help and went to retrieve a spatula from the bbq set. He tried chiseling away at the driveway too. What a cutie!

Tearful Departure

Caleb and I woke up early yesterday morning to send Neal back to Texas. We drove to the airport and when we checked Neal's bags in, the airline asked us for my identification so we could all go to the gate together. In SC, they treated me like a terrorist when we asked if Neal could come to the gate with me. Oh well...
When we got to the security line, an airport employee ushered us to the front of the maze and sent us through quickly. Must've been the uniform Neal was wearing!
We only had a short wait until Neal's group was asked to board, and then the screaming began. We were all hugging/kissing/crying goodbye, and Caleb started yelling for his daddy. It was so sad. The last time Neal left, Caleb didn't really understand that his daddy was gone, but he sure did this time. As we were walking back through the airport to our car I received several stares. I am sure that people thought I was trying to steal a baby. Even in the parking garage someone walked around several cars to get a better look at the two of us. Maybe my tears let them know I wasn't taking him away, but that we were sending the love of our lives away for a few months. We will sure miss Neal while he is away.
To get Caleb's mind off of the departure we tried to buy bread at Great Harvest, but we were too early for bread sales. So we went to the carwash instead. Caleb loves to do that! Then we ate muffins at Paradise Bakery and came home.
In the afternoon I got on another cleaning the house mood and sent my new roomba (a.k.a. Rosie) to work. Then I decided to mop (my least favorite chore) and Caleb decided to help. He wouldn't let me touch the broom or mop. Let's just say it took us about 2 hours to get the job done. What fun...! Speaking of Rosie, my brother David gave it to us for Christmas. I don't know how I ever lived without it. My family is kind of silly and we have to name most of our possessions. After I opened the box, David told me that he had already thought of a name, and it should be Rosie (after the Jetson's robot Rosie). How funny, I was already thinking the same thing! I think that I am having more fun watching Dezi run away from the self- cleaning vacuum than anything else. Caleb keeps going to the closet and getting little treats to feed her while she is working. What a goof!
