Happy Mother's Day!

This morning I woke up to, "Get up, the sun is up!" Love that little guy! Happy Mother's Day!
Yesterday Caleb and I went with my Aunt Marla to Race for the Cure. There were so many people. It was amazing to see so many supporting a great cause. We ended up walking the entire 5k, and I can feel it today! I carried Caleb on my shoulders for a lot of it and coaxed him into his stroller the most that I could. It was fun to spend time with Marla. After the race we went to a nursery to pick up a few things and then to Neilsen's custard for a much deserved treat.
After we came home Caleb and I took a long nap. Then we went to the Wilkinson Center for my cousin Nels wedding reception. Good weekend but I am tired!

A Ray of Sunshine

This evening as I came home from a long and very exhausting week I glanced at my blooming weed garden and noticed a particularly pretty weed. Upon closer inspection I saw that the weed wasn't a weed at all, but the lily of the valley that I transplanted from my grandma's yard last summer. I didn't think it had survived. I dug it up from her yard and carried it to Utah in an icecream bucket. I planted it in July and it was so hot it just withered away. The roots must've taken hold though and I am so happy to have a part of her beautiful yard in my yard. It reminds me that we all have a strong root system somewhere even though the outside may appear to be weak and fragile. We always come back more beautiful. The time that Neal has been gone hasn't been easy, but because we have strong roots keeping us together we will survive the "heat" and the "storm" and come back even better than before.

Uphill Both Ways

This weekend I attempted to mow the lawn, it wasn't so bad in the front. The sides started to turn into the Amazon and the back is a complete hay field. I gave up when it started to rain and the mower quit for the umpteenth time. Last night I decided I better get it done before it rains again. Poor little Caleb was bored out of his mind watching me and being called back to the yard. I finished the beast after many prayers being offered in behalf of the sputtering mower. I went to wash off my green feet and called Neal to tell him this is a chore I give up on. I never really mowed the lawn growing up, that was my brother David's job. (I was too afraid of running over grasshoppers.) When Neal was gone last fall we paid someone to do it, and then my neighbor's helped out. I can't ask them to do that again though.
Neal arranged for a teenager to come tackle the weekly beast for me until he gets home. The amazon is not for the faint of heart. I know that I am a wimp, but this is a job I don't want to handle.
